Events on The Sunrise Coast are as diverse as the area itself, so this winter why not pay us a visit to experience traditional festive spirit and enjoy plenty of winter wonderland fun.
The festive season gets off on a good start with the Beccles Christmas lights and Late Night Shopping Event on Friday 18th November at 5:45pm. The lights will be switched on by a well known celebrity and there will be large Christmas Trees throughout the town to compliment the Christmas Tree festival in Hungate Church and the Christmas Fayre in St Michaels. There will be a wide variety of entertainment on offer from the traditional Loddon Brass Band to the Norwich Pipe Band and Suffolk Samba dancers.
The Lowestoft Christmas Light Switch On is next, taking place on Saturday 29th November from 4pm. Lowestoft will come alive with festive cheer and frivolity as the stars of The Marina Theatre’s professional pantomime ‘Peter Pan’ turn on the lights. It will be a fun-packed event, including a competition for the best dressed Christmas pirate.
Southwold plays host to the next evening of festive fun on Friday 5th December from 6pm with an appearance from Father Christmas, carol singing, a brass band playing, and a variety of festive stalls and shops.
The Bungay Christmas Street Fair is not to be missed on Sunday 7th December from 10 am as it has over 80 stalls selling festive goods and Christmas fayre, not to mention traditional carols and music.
On Sunday 14th December you are spoiled for choice with Halesworth Winter Street Fayre and a Christmas Market and Carol Concert in Oulton Broad both from 10am. In Halesworth there will be numerous trade stalls lining the Thoroughfare - complete with a grand raffle, Father Christmas himself paying a visit and the crowning of the Winter Queen and Princesses. In Oulton Broad you can enjoy a great selection of trade stalls selling Christmas gifts and goodies, followed by a traditional Carol concert at 4pm.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a traditional pantomime – in Lowestoft at the Marina Theatre you can get carried away with Peter Pan – a magical pantomime with plenty of swash and buckle from 11th December to 4th January 2009. In Bungay at the Fisher Theatre Jack and the Beanstalk awaits you from 19th December to 4th January 2009 – you will join the cast as they lead you up the beanstalk to the castle in the clouds where adventure is waiting.....
Just in case that wasn’t enough we also have a synthetic Ice Rink in Triangle Market Place from 20th to 22nd December, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Gala Christmas Celebration is on 14th December at the Marina Theatre, and a workshop to make Victorian Christmas cards at Suffolk Record Office on Monday 22nd December.
